摘要：	The Global Information Infrastructure (GII) is the information and communications "network" of the future, and will support the many communications-dependent ITS applications. At the same time, ITS is an important part of the GII, because ITS is establishing the mobile environment for the GII by integrating computing and communications technologies into vehicles. Coordination is needed between the two communities to ensure that all of the potential synergies are realized effectively. This paper provides a high level picture of how ITS and the GII fit together, and details some of the key concepts shared by both communities. In addition, convergence on the scale of the GII has resulted in a blurring of the traditional boundaries between industries, and the standards organizations which support each industry. ITS is an example of this trend, as ITS standards extend beyond conventional "transportation" topics to include information technology and communications areas such as map database and wide area communication standards. A number of efforts are underway to support the institutional and technical coordination necessary to enable standards in this environment. This paper reports on a few of these efforts.
