The Strategic Highway Research Program (SHRP) presented a new Hot Mix Asphalt (HMA) design method called Superpave, and introduced several new test procedures to evaluate the predicted performance of HMA mixes destined for heavy traffic. SHRP shear tester was designed and recommended as a tool to be used to perform these new tests. This study addresses consistency of rutting predictions based on results of two easily available laboratory testing procedures (indirect tensile creep and loaded wheel) with these bases on test results produced by SHRP shear tester. The study addressed Hot Mix, surface and leveling course asphalt concrete mixes with Ohio's coarse and fine aggregate. The variables included: maximum normal size aggregate, and aggregate type. A total of thirteen asphalt concrete mixes were examined. |
