The precast prestress technology can be used for intermittent repairs or full-scale, continuous rehabilitation and new construction of rigid pavement. Government of India constructed rigid pavement and taken a policy of construction of rigid As per NHAI circular, default mode of construction is rigid pavement. If flexible pavement is considered it should be justified why rigid pavement is not considered. Rigid pavement is assumed to be a maintenance free pavement, but it is not always true. It needs repair and rehabilitation. One of the rehabilitations is full depth repair of entire panel. It needs traffic diversion for long time. This is not feasible for heavy traffic road. In this case precast concrete pavement (Conventional and prestressing) is very useful and repair can be done on the week end within few hours. The same pavement can also be used for new construction. This paper presents basic guideline for thickness design of precast prestress concrete pavement for Indian condition. |
