摘要：	Prof. Caroor Ganapati Swaminathan, Former Director, Central Road Research Institute (1977-1983) and Past President of IRC (1981 -82) has left for heavenly abode on 16th May, 2021. He was a towering professional well known nationally and internationally for his outstanding contributions in the field of Highway Engineering, particularly in the area of flexible pavements. During 1959-61, on deputation from CRRI, he served as Professor and Head of the Department of Civil Engineering, at the newly founded Indian Institute of Technology Madras. Prof. Swaminathan has served as Convenor of Flexible Pavement Committee for a long time. He had contributed many research papers in IRC periodicals and won Mitchell Medal of the IRC and Commendations. It was under his leadership, as Director of CRRI, that landmark studies: 'Road User Cost Study' and 'Comprehensive Transportation Studies of Bombay Metropolitan Region' were successfully completed. Prof Swaminathan was revered among the professionals for his leadership qualities and oratory skills.
