摘要: All villages are located near small rivers called Nalla which generally have steep slope and as a result once the rain stops water drains off in few hours. They therefore do not help ground recharging. Such villages are generally connected by a bridge. After extensive literature survey and hydraulic model analysis in laboratory and canal, a new shape of elliptical concrete arch is developed which is permanently attached to bridge piers to create water storage of 2.4 m. Design is so evolved that virtually no force is transferred to bridge. As Compared to cement plug or weir the cost of elliptical weir structures is 60% that of cement plug since we are taking advantage of bridge hence do not require wing wall nor extensive protection measures .The cost of this innovative structure is Rs 80000 to Rs 90000 per running metre while for a typical cement plug the cost works out to 1.5 lakh per running metre Cement plug generally store water up to 1.5 m while we are planning for 2.4 m storage and thus stored water will be 2.56 time that of typical cement weir. It is also observed that water falling from edge of elliptical arch create vortex and thereby kill all energy Standard designs for various foundation conditions and spans are developed and available on VNIT website. Construction technology of precasting is developed to complete structure in 20 days through local resources. We have already completed more than 20 structures and benefits such as water level rising by 70 ft in wells and irrigation of 150 to 200 acres are already noted and few case studies also are described .Till now we have restricted the usage of this technology for bridges upto 60 m waterway and flood depth not exceeding 6 m and also water storage of 2.4 m MLA, MP discretionary funds, CSR funds contingency of budgeted works are available. GOI has agreed to fund from National Highway and PPMGSY projects. GOI intends to double income of farmers and under JJM want to supply drinking water to each household. Both these objectives can be fulfilled at minimum cost with this innovative technology.
