Paver blocks have been in use for many years. In the modern world, they are utilized in various applications like in street roads, parking lots etc. Cement concrete is the second most-utilized artificial material on earth after water. It is also a widely known fact that Portland cement generates a huge amount of carbon dioxide (CO_2) a greenhouse gas which is a root cause of global warming and primarily responsible for climate change. This has resulted in joint efforts from researchers across the globe to find a suitable alternative to the cement concrete for sustainable and eco-friendly infrastructure development which has resulted in the development of geopolymer concrete. Geopolymer concrete production utilizes fly ash a waste product generated from the coal powered thermal power plant and alkaline solution in suitable proportion. Numerous researchers and scientists have presented towards the development of geopolymer concrete paver blocks intending to replace it with cement concrete paver blocks. This review paper focuses on recent progress made in the development of geopolymer concrete paver blocks. Research findings revealed that geopolymer concrete paver blocks displayed comparative properties to its cement concrete counterpart. |
