Active land loss in coastal Louisiana (LA) is a crisis that requires emergency action to help protect our cultural identity. The Coastal Protection and Restoration Authority's Coastal Master Plan is one of the many proactive steps the state of Louisiana has taken since Hurricanes Katrina and Rita hammered our coast. Coastal land loss in Louisiana is ground zero for challenges that other coastal communities will face as sea-level rise and climate change impact other coastlines. The lower half of Louisiana was built up from alluvial deposits from America's great river, the Mighty Mississippi, the crisis in Louisiana is of national significance. The state's Master Plan however, inadequately addresses urgently needed sensitivity to convert the historic way of life in our coastal communities. |
