| 摘要： | Natural aggregate sources in Maine are becoming depleted and in many cases the quality of aggregate materials is declining. Several regions of the state do not have locally available aggregates of the quality necessary for highway and bridge construction. One possible solution to this problem is the use of synthetic or manufactured aggregates. Synthetic replacements exist for some construction aggregates, and there are industrial and municipal waste/by products which have been found to be suitable for construction purposes. This report examines the present availability of aggregates in Maine, as well as the availability and suitability of possible replacements. The impact of using low quality aggregates is also discussed. |
