Just over a year into the global pandemic, the disruptions continue across the world's supply chains. Partially due to shortages, lack of capacity, and persistent port congestion only tells part of the story. Shippers are also grappling with a dearth of warehouse labor and driver shortages. As they wade through these complexities, shippers also need full, end-to-end supply chain visibility. Without it, making good decisions across that network becomes a guessing game based on reactive thinking-an approach that doesn't work in today's fast-paced logistics environment. With much focus being placed on these and other logistics-related struggles, finding the time to focus on core business strategies is difficult at best. "Right now, transportation logistics and supply chains are at the forefront," says Steve Martin, Senior VP of Dedicated Transportation Services at Ryder. "Transportation rates are up at least 20% year-over-year across most modes, with some modes posting even higher increases. Additionally, companies need end-to-end visibility of an order from the warehouse, across transportation networks, and at the point of delivery to make dynamic decisions." |
