A WORLDWIDE SHORTAGE OF COMPUTER CHIPS is affecting trucking fleets that are unable to get new trucks throughout North America. In fact, it's estimated that at least 20% of the world's supply of computer chips are currently offline.
The reasons vary. First, it was a combination of port issues affecting global shipping lines. Then, the crippling, late winter storms in Texas and elsewhere were blamed for a worldwide shortage of plastics.
In late March, Mack's parent company, Sweden-based Volvo Group, said the chip shortage will have a "substantial impact" on production in the second quarter at its plant in Allentown, Pa., and elsewhere. |
