摘要: In October 1988, the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) issued a memorandum that placed restrictions on the use of seven-wire strands for pretensioned members in highway bridge applications. As a result of this memorandum, about 12 research projects were initiated at institutions in the United States and Canada. The research often led to conflicting design recommendations for transfer and development lengths of pretensioned strands. In an attempt to reconcile some of the differences in the design recommendations, the FHWA requested that an independent reviews of the recent research be conducted. This report is a summary of that effort. The specific objectives of the present study were as follows: (1) Conduct a review of literature related to strand transfer and development length research; (2) Analyze data from recent studies and rationalize discrepancies among conclusions drawn from these studies; and (3) Recommend design criteria for strand transfer and development lengths consistent with the current state of knowledge. The objectives cited above were fulfilled. Recommendations and equations for determining strand transfer and development lengths are presented.
