The guidelines presented here build on the experiences of five county-wide impaired driving prevention programs for youth in Michigan between 1992 and 1995. This document is divided into seven sections. The first section, Introduction and Basics, discusses why one should consider organizing an impaired driving prevention program for youth and presents an overview of impaired driving prevention programs for youth. The second section, Getting Ready, discusses the process of problem identification, resource assessment, assessment of other communities' experience developing a program concept, and coalition building. The third section, Making It Happen, discusses program development, program organization, and program implementation. The forth section, Assessing Effectiveness, focuses on why one should evaluate and what is involved in evaluating program effectiveness. The final three sections list the reports and other publications used in preparing these guidelines, as well as resources that may be helpful in planning, developing, implementing, and evaluating impaired driving prevention programs for youth and agencies and organizations involved with youth or impaired driving issues. |
