Thermal imagery, or "thermography," is a non-contact method of detecting infrared energy. Infrared is part of the electromagnetic spectrum and is just beyond our ability to see. In fact, the word "infrared" comes from "infra," meaning "beyond" and "red," which is the low end of the visible light range. And while we may not be able to see it, we can feel it-as heat.Thermography is not new, either. It was first developed for military use more than 100 years ago and is still in use by the military, law enforcement, firefighters, and other first responders. It is also used in certain ADAS systems, like pedestrian detection. |
