When we first read your question, Jim, we thought of how collision repairers have traditionally had to solve their own problems due to little help being offered outside of the collision industry. Unfortunately, that is the way it has been for many years. In fact, the first response we received when reaching out to an automaker confirmed our thinking. "I think the better question would be, 'What are insurers doing to educate themselves on the fast-growing vehicle technology?" they said. "I do not see where it is the responsibility or position of any manufacturer to force any training upon an insurer." However, we have all seen evidence of late of OEMs taking a greater interest in the proper repair of their vehicles, knowing that a faulty repair could drive a consumer away from their brand. Also, with ADAS, exotic substrates and ever-increasing sophistication of their vehicles, OEMs are taking a greater stake in making sure collision repair facilities are certified and have the proper training, equipment and information to perform proper and safe repairs. |
