A rockfall mitigation project was undertaken to address rockfall hazard along PA Route 248 in Carbon County, south of Palmerton, PA. The rockfall mitigation system consist of a rockfall fence and slope netting. The fence produces a physical barrier, controlling rockfall from above. The slope net drapes the rock slope below the fence to control the rockfall from this area. The project site is contained within the limits of a larger EPA superfund site. Another phase of the rockfall mitigation and rock stabilization plan was revegetation of a contaminated slope. The product used for the revegetation was a synthetic topsoil consisting of lime, potash, sludge, flyash and selected grass seed. |
