| 摘要： | This is the hardest comment I have ever had to write. How can I pay tribute to the life of senior Department for Transport (DfT) civil servant Steve Berry, who passed away this April, so tragically before his time? After a decade of working in this industry with him, we were good work friends but I cannot pretend to have known Steve as well as many of our readers did. Steve went out onto the frontlines to meet people. He made time to find out what was really going on and once he knew the problems, he solved them; he 'got things done', as one senior figure put it. He never lost his sense of the value of the job, of how vital it was to the country he served so well. He was restless in his desire to improve the sector and for all his work to build evidence cases for the betterment of highways - the asset management plans he insisted were put in place, the resilience protocols he helped build, the new code of practice he helped install - it is the good he has done that cannot be measured. |
