VINCI subsidiary Taylor Woodrow has been confirmed as the winner of a £328m deal with Highways England to upgrade a nine-mile stretch of the A358 in the South West. The firm beat a host of the bidders including Sir Robert McAlpine to the job, which comprises dualling the A358 from the Southfields roundabout on the A303 to the junction with the M5 at Taunton. Andrew Alcorn, Highways England's programme leader for the A358, said: 'Taylor Woodrow has an extensive track record working with Highways England and delivering large scale infrastructure projects, so we are confident they will deliver a scheme that will support economic growth, improve traffic flows at peak times and make the road safer.' Arup and Ramboll are also working on the project, which has been deemed a Nationally Significant Infrastructure Project by the Department for Transport and is still in the planning stage. A development consent order is expected to be submitted to the Planning Inspectorate next summer and the start of works is not expected until 2025. |
