摘要: The idea of the 15-minute city is a concept where people are within a 15-minute walk or cycle from most of the things they need for day-to-day life. It's something that recently re-elected mayor of Paris, Anne Hidalgo, put in her manifesto last year and it's definitely something to keep our eyes on in 2021.Like many 'big ideas', it's not new. Having much of daily life happening on our doorsteps was how things used to be, with travelling greater distances being a more recent invention. Ms Hidalgo's vision is supported by her scientific advisor, Professor Carlos Moreno, who says that a 15-minute city will 'enable the six main urban activities for living in cities: to live, to work, to supply, to education, to health, and to enjoy'. [1] It's an idea that suits higher density and mixed-use development with less reliance on private cars and public transport for daily needs.
