Over the last year, there has been a major reallocation of road space for active travel across the country, while in London there have been restrictions to motor traffic. Sadly, it has not gone smoothly. The agenda was billed as part of the green, build back better plan. Then vocal opponents weighed in and politicians from transport secretary Grant Shapps down to local councillors started to get cold feet. Among the high profile arguments is London mayor Sadiq Khan's ongoing battle over the Streetspace for London Plan. Introduced in May last year, the plan saw the implementation of bus gates, banned turns and restricted access to streets in LTNs across London. |
