The much-delayed award of the contract to complete a £21.6m bypass at Lyminster in West Sussex will not be made until a public inquiry is completed. West Sussex County Council chose Jackson Civil Engineering over a fleet of other bidders including Knights Brown at the end of 2019 but funding was not secured until last month and a public inquiry announced in February still has to be completed. A council spokesperson said: 'Jackson Civil Engineering was appointed as the design-and-build contractor prior to detailed design, but final award of the contract stage will not be made until after the public inquiry in August.' In June, the Department for Transport agreed to provide funding of £11.8m. The remaining £9.8m will come from West Sussex County Council, the Coast to Capital Local Enterprise Partnership and private developers. |
