Procurement of a contractor for a £254m upgrade to Junction 10 of the M5 in Gloucestershire will kick off on 16 July. Gloucestershire County Council, which is delivering the scheme with support from Highways England and Homes England, will stage a Microsoft Teams market engagement event and interested contractors will then be given the opportunity to attend individual virtual sessions between 19 July and 4 August. The project is being funded via a £249m grant from Homes England's Housing Infrastructure Fund. Southampton-based R&W Civil Engineering and local outfit Walker Construction are among the contractors chasing an £11m deal to carry out improvements to a stretch of the A289 at Chatham in Kent for Medway Council. Consultants LDA Urban Design and Mott MacDonald are already working on the scheme to improve capacity at three roundabouts between Four Elms and Anthony's Way. The improvements will also provide capacity for extra traffic, which is expected from development work on the Hoo Peninsula, Kingsnorth and Grain. Work is expected to start on site early next year. |
