Since the end of the Second World War, authorities in Lincoln wanted to create an orbital link road around the city. The ambition has been delivered slowly, piece by piece, with different sections of the road being built since the 1980s. In December 2020, the £120m 4.6 mile Lincoln Eastern Bypass was officially opened, connecting with the existing northern relief road. And a month earlier, the Department for Transport had awarded £110m to the North Hykeham Relief Road - the final piece of the ring road around the city. The relief road will link the Lincoln Eastern Bypass with the existing Western bypass to create the ring road and will also form part of the Lincolnshire Coastal Highway. |
