摘要: One of the issues I often see with walking and especially cycling is how we promote 'route' based schemes. That's not to say the designs generated are poor - some of them are revolutionary - but there is a risk they can also lock in future problems if consideration is not given to network-level issues. Consider walking, cycling and driving. If we think about using the right tool for the job, walking should be dealing with as many hyper-local trips as possible and driving (as a private user) should deal with trips that cannot be easily walked or cycled (ignoring the role of public transport to some extent]. Cycling fits in the space where it's too far for most people to walk, but where driving really is too short a distance and has too many adverse impacts.
