It is now a year since the pandemic first became an issue in the UK and it is hard to comprehend the scale of the impact it has had upon so many activities that we took for granted a year ago. This time last year I had the pleasure of visiting a couple of our IRTE Centres; Ireland North and North London, my local Centre. The trip to Ireland North involved visits to several local businesses operating in the road transport industry and culminated in an evening awards event hosted by the Centre. The enthusiasm and commitment of the Centre committee was clear to see and its significant contribution to the local road transport community was also clear. Back in North London, a few days later, I attended the AGM of the local Centre. By this time, handshakes were no longer recommended and social distancing was starting to enter our vocabulary. Despite these limitations the Centre did a great job of reviewing the previous year and looking forward to the year ahead. |
