摘要: This picture album describes a once thriving rural bus service that has disappeared completely, though it is for others to determine if it also suffered from the neglect that Ben Colson describes at Eastern Counties. Cumberland Motor Services operated six times a day (five on Sundays) on the coast road from Whitehaven south to Millom, with passengers required to change buses at Seascale. Double-deckers were needed on school journeys, but a low railway bridge at Seascale required single-deckers. There were two buses two days a week between Whitehaven, Seascale and Nether Wasdale, while Sim's of Boot - which still runs coaches today - served remote Eskdale until 1964.
