Cardiff Bus has ordered 36 electric buses after its shareholder, Cardiff Council, agreed to match-fund an earlier allocation from the Department for Transport. The vehicles are due to enter service by the end of this year and will be concentrated on routes to western and northern suburbs. Another Welsh council-owned operator, Newport Transport, has ordered a further 16 electric buses after the DfT reallocated £2.8m of Ultra-Low Emissions Bus Scheme (ULEBS) funding from Caerphilly to Newport. The Covid-19 pandemic prevented Stagecoach from progressing its plans to bring 16 electric buses to Caerphilly, a former coal mining town, as reported in the May issue of Buses. |
