Operators of routes entering Greater London from surrounding counties have had to upgrade their vehicles to meet tighter conditions of the London-wide low emission zone (LEZ) which took effect on 1 March, imposing a £100 daily charge for any that do not meet the Euro6 standard. Most of First Berkshire's Slough-based fleet, including all its Volvo 7900H hybrid single-deckers, Wright-bodied Volvo B7RLEs recently transferred from Southampton and Alexander Dennis Enviro200s used on services to Uxbridge and Heathrow, have had their exhaust systems modified by Eminox. Metrobus has received six similarly adapted Wright-bodied Volvo B9TLs from Brighton & Hove for route 420 (Sutton-Whitebushes), while Arriva Southern Counties has replaced non-compliant Mercedes-Benz Citaros on former Green Line route 724 (Harlow-Heathrow) with four-year-old Alexander Dennis Enviro200 MMCs. |
