I sit firmly in the optimistic camp, thinking not only that passenger numbers will soon return to pre-pandemic levels but if operators and local authorities are adept enough to seize the opportunities, we can look forward to a bright future for the bus. Here is why I am wearing my rose-tinted spectacles. First, those who reckon working from home is now embedded and employees will not be returning to the daily commute may be exaggerating the impact. For every HSBC that recently stated it plans to slash its office space by 40% worldwide, there is a Goldman Sachs where the chief executive signalled his intention to get employees back behind their office desks as soon as possible. |
