Leicester's three-site park-&-ride service, contracted to Roberts of Hugglescote, was converted to electric operation from May 24. The move saw the services rebranded as Greenlines, introducing a new all-over green livery on the 11 Yutong E12s obtained to replace the current eight-strong fleet of five year old Volvo B8RLE/MCV Evolution Euro6 diesel buses. The new buses feature Wi-Fi, USB sockets, a wood-effect floor, and next stop audio-visual equipment. Four more Yutong El2s are expected for use by Centrebus on the city's Hospital Hopper service, which is currently planned to convert to electric operation this autumn. The £7.1m cost of the project so far has largely been met from the Transforming Cities Fund allocated by the Department for Transport. Leicester City Council hopes that further funding will enable it to introduce an electrically-operated city centre shuttle service in autumn 2022. |
