Who needs an ornamental pond or the services of a landscaper when you can preserve some tangible pieces of bus history in the family garden? Brian Waters rescued a Warstone Motors (Green Bus Service) bus stop and working destination display and installed them at his home in Shifnal, Shropshire. Green Bus - famed for a fleet of interesting elderly vehicles that included Leyland Leopards in its latter years - was based in Great Wyrley near Walsall and operated services from 1975 until its operator licence was revoked in November 2009. Brian says that route 5 (Telford-Cannock) ran via Shifnal for the last time 26 years ago in 1995 but continued via the A5 until 2007. He also has a piece of advice for anyone contemplating a similar installation in the garden shed. "We had to strengthen ours inside to bear the weight," he tells me. |
