Darren Hall brings news of how two enterprising Irish businesses have adapted retired Volvo B7TL double-deckers for quite different uses. One is Romayo's, which has a chain of diners in Greater Dublin and the Irish Midlands. It found itself unable to expand while construction activity was halted by the pandemic, but adapted to the times with a drive-in takeaway outlet it calls Romayo's Roadster. Converted at a cost of €200,000 (£172,000), Wright Eclipse Gemini-bodied 02 KE 16283 was previously operated by Jacobus Coaches in Co. Kildare but is perhaps better known to Buses readers as Go-Ahead London General WVL39 (LF52 ZRY), which was based at Putney garage. It is stationed close to a bar in Kilmacanoge, Co. Kildare. |
