摘要: An increase in revenue and profits at Stagecoach's London business in the year to April 30 helped cushion some of the fall that the Covid pandemic has delivered to its regional operations in the rest of Britain. Compared with 2019/20, revenue - including government support - on regional services fell by 34% and operating profit by 73% from £90.6million to £24.5million. The operating margin dropped from 9% to 3.7%. Stagecoach says it is currently operating around 94% of the vehicle mileage it covered in 2019/20, with commercial ticket sales in the seven days to June 26 of around 68% of where they were two years earlier; at its lowest point last year, the figure was just 12%. Thanks partly to contract wins, its London business achieved a like-for-like revenue increase of 8.3%, with operating profit up by 16.1% from £16.1million to £18.7million. The operating margin is up from 6.5% to 7.1%. Chief executive Martin Griffiths says it is continuing to seek opportunities to get back into markets outside the UK. It expects to submit a bid in July for what it says are "significant bus contracts" in Dubai, is "actively exploring" bus and long-distance coach opportunities in United Arab Emirates and possible bus and rail contracts in Scandinavia.
