The Department for Education has made a sixth tranche of payments to local authorities, to cover the additional costs of school transport in England arising from social distancing requirements. More than £135million has now been paid out since the scheme began in September 2020. Transport for London has received the largest allocation, £18.1million, followed by Greater Manchester Combined Authority at nearly £10.1million. The shire authority with the highest amount awarded is Kent, at £6.2million, while the smallest amount, £41,000, has gone to the Isles of Scilly Council. • The rules for continuing exemptions from PSV Accessibility Regulations for school transport remained the subject of discussions between trade bodies and the Department for Transport in early summer. Current leeway for non-accessible vehicles is due to expire at the end of the summer term, requiring operators to use fully compliant vehicles from the autumn. |
