Turkish manufacturer Karsan has been awarded an electric bus tender in Weilheim, Germany, and expects to provide five Atak 8m electric buses to the municipality in the final quarter of 2021. The contract met by Karsan required 'more modern and more eco-friendly and user-friendly vehicles,' with a daily range of at least 250km along with criteria regarding storage and charging. Karsan signed the agreement through Quantron AG - its dealer in Germany. The manufacturer currently has almost 200 electric vehicles serving in 30 European cities. The Atak is powered by a 230kW motor generating 2,500Nm of torque. Running on a total 220kWh capacity with five 44kWh batteries developed by BMW, Karsan claims the vehicle can offer a 300km (186 mile) range. Karsan says the vehicle's batteries can be charged in five hours with AC charging, and in three hours with fast-charging units. A regenerative braking system is also installed. The model comes with two seating layout options, 18+4 or 21+4 foldable, for a capacity of 52 passengers. |
