Equipment from Voegele and Hamm has been used to build a carriageway with reduced-temperature asphalt in Germany. The equipment was required for paving a road tunnel in Kahrlsruhe. Tough conditions were applied to paving in the road tunnel under the Kriegsstrasse road. To minimise emissions, the contractor employed machines with diesel particulate filters and reduced-temperature asphalts. Using Voegele pavers and Hamm rollers, the consortium handling the work, which comprised Schleith and Zueblin, was able to meet the requirements and pave the mix efficiently and in high quality. The road tunnel work forms part of a wider project to improve the centre of Karlsruhe. What was previously a wide road for through traffic is being transformed into a public space for pedestrians, with a landscaped tram track and an avenue of trees featuring cycling facilities. An underground train line is being built while through traffic is being diverted into a 1.6km road tunnel. |
