A new dawn for the IAPH: following his election as IAPH president and official introduction at the World Ports Confer- ence in June, captain Subramaniam Karuppiah-the general manager of Port Klang in Malaysia-will serve the association as new president until 2023. He takes over from Santiago Garcia-Mila who will continue to support the IAPH as well as his role as deputy executive director at the Port of Barcelona, Spain. With 2020 having brought in organizational changes to the association's committees, Subramaniam wants to "keep it simple," he told P&H in a conversation with the IAPH's managing director Patrick Verhoeven. The new president therefore described his vision in the following way: "I'm looking to serve every member on any issues that may arise. We have over 160 regular and 140 associate members and we have issues all around the world at ports, and only one is the pandemic." |
