THE EFFECTIVENESS OF VEHICLE NOISE REDUCTION MEASURES DEPENDS ON THE RELATIONS BETWEEN THE LEVELS OF NOISE EMITTED BY A VEHICLE FOR EACH TYPICAL REGIMEN AND ITS IMPACT ON THE POPULATION EXPRESSED IN LEQ OR AS PEAK LEVEL PERCEIVED BY FRONTAGERS. IN THE FIRST PHASE, A LIGHTWEIGHT VEHICLE, THE NOISE CARD OF WHICH IS KNOWN, WILL TRAVEL THROUGH AN URBAN AREA OF SIMPLE LAYOUT; THE VARIOUS CHARACTERISTIC PARAMETERS OF THE VEHICLE WILL BE RECORDED. THE SOUND PROFILE OF THIS VEHICLE WILL BE ESTABLISHED AT SEVERAL POINTS ALONG THE ROAD. TRAFFIC NOISE LEVELS WILL ALSO BE RECORDED AT THESE POINTS. THESE LEVELS WILL BE COMPARED TO THE EXPERIMENTAL PROFILE IN ORDER TO ESTABLISH CORRELATIONS BETWEEN THE LEVELS OF NOISE EMITTED UNDER THE VARIOUS CHARACTERISTIC DRIVING CONDITIONS OF THE EXPERIMENTAL VEHICLE AND THE LEVELS MEASURED AT THE POINTS CONSIDERED. THE METHOD WILL BE VALIDATED AND GENERALIZED FOR COMPLEX SITES AND TRAFFIC. IN A SECOND PHASE, URBAN SITES CHARACTERISTIC OF VARIOUS URBAN CONDITIONS OCCURRING IN FRANCE WILL BE SELECTED. THE METHOD DEVELOPED WILL BE APPLIED TO THESE SITES WHERE SEVERAL EXPERIMENTAL VEHICLES WILL BE RECORDED, DRIVEN BY DIFFERENT DRIVERS AT DIFFERENT TIMES ON DIFFERENT DAYS OF THE WEEK. THE RECORDINGS, AND SOUND MEASUREMENTS WILL BE ANALYZED. |
