THE OBJECT OF THIS RESEARCH IS TO SOLVE PROBLEMS OF CONTROL, TESTING OR NON-DESTRUCTIVE TESTING ARISING IN THE VARIOUS CIVIL ENGINEERING OR ENVIRONMENTAL FIELDS BY USING THE VARIOUS PHYSICAL, STATISTICAL OR INFORMATION-DOCUMENTATION TECHNIQUES AVAILABLE. IN 1979, THE MAIN PART OF THE STUDY WILL BE AN INVESTIGATION INTO THE NON-DESTRUCTIVE TESTING OF RIVER BRIDGES, USING PHYSICAL METHODS SUSCEPTIBLE TO BRING NEW SOLUTIONS, IN PARTICULAR TO THE MEASUREMENT OF SCOURING PHENOMENA AND TO THE EVALUATION OF THE CONDITIONS OF BRIDGE PIERS AND FOUNDATIONS. WITH A VIEW TO DEFINING THE ORIENTATION OF FUTURE RESEARCH, OTHER THEMES OF STUDY PROPOSED BY THE TECHNICAL SECTIONS OF THE LABORATORY WILL BE INVESTIGATED, FOR EXAMPLE: HIGH-OUTPUT MEASUREMENT OF SOME OF THE CHARACTERISTICS OF WEARING COURSES; MEASUREMENT OF NEW PARAMETERS FOR DRAINAGE STUDIES; MEASUREMENT OF CRACKS. |
