CONNECTION OF CONTINUOUS COMPOSITE BEAMS. ITS EFFECT ON THE RIGIDITY AND SAFETY OF STRUCTURES |

THE CORRELATION BETWEEN THE COMPUTER-SIMULATED BEHAVIOUR OF COMPOSITE STEEL-CONCRETE BEAMS IN THE BEARING ZONE AND THEIR REAL BEHAVIOUR IS FAIRLY GOOD WHEN THE CONCRETE IS SUBJECTED TO VERY HEAVY LOADS (COMPLETELY FISSURED CONCRETE IN TENSION). THIS CORRELATION IS LESS ACCURATE WHEN THE LOADS ARE SMALL. THE LATTER IS THE CASE OF THE BRIDGE DECK OF HIGHWAY BRIDGES IN SERVICE (APPLIED LOAD VERTICAL TO THE BEARINGS). THE PROBLEM IS COMPLEX BECAUSE OF THE LARGE NUMBER OF PARAMETERS LIABLE TO INFLUENCE THE BEHAVIOUR OF BEAMS IN THE VICINITY OF THE BEARINGS. FURTHERMORE, NO EXPERIMENTAL RESULTS ON COMPOSITE BRIDGES IN SERVICE ARE KNOWN. A SERIES OF TESTS WERE UNDERTAKEN ON A COMPOSITE STRUCTURE UNDER CONSTRUCTION. THE OBJECTIVE OF THE MEASUREMENTS WAS TO DETERMINE THE REAL BEHAVIOUR OF A COMPOSITE BEAM IN THE NEIGHBOURHOOD OF THE BEARINGS AND TO SHOW THE PARAMETERS INFLUENCING THIS BEHAVIOUR. ULTIMATELY THE RESULTS OBTAINED WILL BE USED TO DERIVE A COMPUTER PROGRAM TO STUDY THIS PROBLEM IN DEPTH. |
