THE AIM OF THIS RESEARCH IS A CLASSIFICATION OF THE PHYSICAL PHENOMENA DESCRIBED UNDER THE TERM: CRACKING IN ROAD CONSTRUCTION, BY ANALYZING CRACK PROPAGATION AND ITS CONSEQUENCES. IN 1978 TWO ASPECTS WERE STUDIED: (A) DESCRIPTION AND CLASSIFICATION OF CRACKS, (B) DERIVATION OF MODELS FOR STUDYING CRACK PROPAGATION MECHANISM (MATHEMATICAL MODELS AND SMALL-SCALE MODEL IN THE LABORATORY). IN 1979 IT IS ENVISAGED: (1) TO CONDUCT A STUDY OF THE PROPAGATION MECHANISM FROM THE MATHEMATICAL MODEL DERIVED IN 1978. TO CHECK THE MODEL (VERIFICATION OF HYPOTHESES: ADHESION OF LAYERS - INTERLOCKING), INFLUENCE OF VARIOUS PARAMETERS (THICKNESS - INTERLAYER BOND). (2) TO CHARACTERIZE CRACKS: INVESTIGATION INTO THE ROLE OF TEMPERATURE ON THE BEHAVIOUR OF THE STRUCTURE IN THE VICINITY OF CRACKS, EVOLUTION OF CRACKS IN TIME. (3) TO TO CARRY OUT LABORATORY TESTS: RISE OF CRACKS THROUGH WEARING COURSES UNDER SIMULATED TRAFFIC. |
