摘要: | This report analyzes the performance of the nonlinear altitude tracker developed for the Active Beacon Collision Avoidance System (BCAS) by Lincoln Laboratory. The tracker is intended for use in the collision avoidance logic of the BCAS system. The nonlinear tracker performance was characterized through comparisons with the previous altitude tracker. The original tracker, used by the collision avoidance logic, was a simplistic alpha-beta tracker. The nonlinear tracker performance evaluation was conducted in three phases: (1) The stand-alone error characteristics of the tracker were obtained. Simulated mode C report sequences were provided directly to the tracker. (2) The nonlinear tracker was integrated directly into the collision avoidance logic. With the use of the Fast-Time Encounter Generator (FTEG), a comparative study of performance with the nonlinear tracker versus the alpha-beta tracker was made. (3) Selected live flight test encounters were used to analyze the relative performance of the alpha-beta tracker versus the nonlinear tracker. The stand-alone analysis revealed that the nonlinear tracker consistently had smaller maximal errors in vertical rate estimation and a smaller transient rate response delay than did the alpha-beta tracker. Both the live flight test encounter simulations and the FTEG scenario simulation indicated that nonlinear tracking often caused an increase in separation for encounters with vertically accelerating threats and reduced occurrences of incorrect command sense choice.
