摘要: IN A PREVIOUS STUDY TRAFFIC FLOW WAS MEASURED AT TWO POINTS AND IT WAS ESTABLISHED THAT ROAD USERS HESITATED TO USE THE "ZIP FASTENER" METHOD OF MERGING WHEN APPROACHING A BOTTLENECK. A POSSIBLE CAUSE WAS THAT OVERTAKING PROHIBITIONS ARE ERECTED BEFORE MOST BOTTLENECKS, WITH THE RESULT THAT MOST DRIVERS DO NOT MERGE UNTIL THE END OF THE MERGING SECTION. THE OBJECT OF THIS RESEARCH IS TO CARRY OUT MEASUREMENTS ON FURTHER "ZIP FASTENER" SECTIONS AND TO EVALUATE DATA ALREADY OBTAINED. SIGNING AND ROAD MARKING ON THE SECTIONS UNDER STUDY IS TO BE SYSTEMATICALLY ALTERED. THE STUDY IS TO BE SUPPLEMENTED BY A SIMULATION OF TRAFFIC FLOW AT BOTTLENECKS. THE RESULTS OF THE MEASUREMENTS ARE TO BE USED TO CALIBRATE THE SIMULATION MODEL.
