FORTY AUSTRIAN ROCKS AND CHIPPINGS DERIVED FROM THEM WERE SUBJECTED TO THE FOLLOWING TESTS: MODIFIED LOS ANGELES TEST ON PARTICLE SIZE 5/8 ACCORDING TO RVS 8.111, LOS ANGELES TEST ON PARTICLES SIZE 5/8 AND 8/12 ACCORDING TO AUSTRIAN STANDARD B 3128, MODIFIED DEVAL TEST ON PARTICLE SIZE 5/8, DRY AND WET, IMPACT TEST ON PARTICLE SIZE 8/12 ACCORDING TO GERMAN RECOMMENDATIONS AND THE "RITZ" TEST (PENETRATION DEPTH OF A LOADED ECCENTRICALLY ROTATING STUD). RESULTS OBTAINED FROM THE VARIOUS PARTICLE CLASSES CAN ONLY BE COMPARED UNDER CERTAIN CONDITIONS. THE LOS ANGELES TEST AND THE IMPACT DESTRUCTION TEST BASICALLY DESCRIBE THE TOUGHNESS OF THE MATERIAL AND THEREFORE GIVE SIMILAR RESULTS. IN THE "RITZ" TEST FIRST AND FOREMOST THE HARDNESS OF THE MINERALS WHICH FORM THE STONE IS DETERMINED. THE "RITZ" TEST CONSTITUTES A USEFUL SUPPLEMENT TO EXISTING PROCEDURES. |
