The purpose of this research is to develop a visual information selective acquisition (VISA) model which facilitates realistic visual constraints and gathers information based on a selective process that allows for events such as distractions. This model is to be incorporated for use in computer driver simulation models to enhance the visual information selection abilities of such driver models by providing the use of a broader range of variables pertaining to the driver's visual system. Overall, it is desired to develop a driver visual attention model that is comprehensive enough to be used in a wide range of studies requiring visual sensitivity, such as Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) appications (in-vehicle navigation systems research, etc.) and detailed enough to model a variety of visual conditions (age-related, intoxicated) within varying driving environments.
