TWENTY YEARS AGO, decayed wiring was blamed for an explosion that ripped open the Magnolia Marine Transport barge MM25 the previous May near Baton Bouge, La.; medical reasons may have been responsible for a catastrophic barge al-lision and collapse of the 1-40 bridge in Oklahoma, reports revealed; and Marquette Transportation donated a 130-foot-long office barge to river cleanup activist Chad Pregracke. THIRTY YEARS AGO, Dean Gabbert wrote of his three-day Nile Biver cruise in The Waterways Journal; Leevac Shipyards Inc. said it was building a 210-foot, four-deck casino boat for Southern Illinois Biv-erboat Casino Cruises Inc.; and the main lock chamber of the Meldahl Locks at Mile 436.2 of the Ohio Biver shut down for repairs. |
