Houston-based Great Lakes Dredge & Dock Corporation (GLDD), which operates the largest dredge fleet in the United States, has announced receipt of two major dredging contacts totaling $90.3 million. The new contracts include phase 3 of the Boston Harbor Navigation Improvement Project and rehabilitation work connected to the Panama City Beaches Coastal Storm Risk Management Project. The Boston Harbor project, valued at $61.8 million, will focus on navigational improvements to allow larger tankers to access terminals and reduce transportation costs. Boston Harbor is the principal distribution point for imports and exports for Massachusetts, New Hampshire and Vermont. The phase 3 work involves excavation of hard rock through drilling, blasting and dredging. The New England Engineer District is the client, and the project is federally funded. GLDD ex-pects to begin work soon, with the project completed by the end of the vear. |
