| 摘要： | Friends and colleagues of the late William T. "Billy" Bergeron are invited to a special celebration of his life, which will be held July 24 from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. at St. Bernard Port, Harbor & Terminal District's headquarters at 100 Port Blvd. in Chalmette, La. Bergeron, beloved by so many in the maritime industry, and particularly legendary in the New Orleans area and the Gulf Coast region, died February 2. He was 73 years old. At 23 years old, Bergeron was awarded the contract to build the Steamboat Natchez, despite having no experience building ships and no existing shipyard to do the work. Nonetheless, Bergeron delivered the iconic vessel in 1975, and it's been plying the Mississippi River in New Orleans ever since. |
