At least 12 vessels responded to a tow-boat fire that broke out aboard a towboat just south of St. Louis Harbor in the early morning May 18. At about 6:45 a.m. near Mile 176 of the Mississippi River, smoke was spotted rising from the mv. Mary Lynn, a twin-screw towboat belonging to Hermann Sand & Gravel Inc., Hermann, Mo.Among the responding vessels were three harbor tugs and two line boats belonging to Osage Marine Services. The first boat to respond was the mv. Rain Man, a twin-screw towboat built in 1999 by Hope Services Inc. of Dulac, La., and operated by Osage. Two firefighting vessels belonging to the St. Louis Fire Department, the Stan Musial and Jack Ruck, took part in fighting the fire. Vessels belonging to American River Transportation Company (ARTCO) also assisted, including five tugs and two line boats. One line boat rescued crewmem-bers while a second boat ferried supplies and equipment, according to Mike Kessler, a manager at Osage. |
