摘要: The objective of the Project 35 research is to develop and evaluate additional capabilities for the automated speech-to-PIREP submission framework developed in Partnership to Enhance General Aviation Safety, Accessibility and Sustainability (PEGASAS) Project 33 (AWIP). Task activities in this project are intended to resolve identified gaps in PIREP creation and dissemination, including delays and errors in submission by General Aviation (GA) pilots. The final report deliverable will provide Minimum Weather Service recommendations for cockpit interfaces that minimize hand entries to increase the accuracy and timeliness of PIREP submittals while reducing pilot workload. It will also provide recommendations for the minimum performance of the interface for operational use. The aim of the Project 35 research tasks described in this proposal are to confirm and validate techniques to enhance the capability of machine learning (ML) tools to support hands-minimized pilot submission. Human Factors and aviation operations expertise will be incorporated to enable in-person, on-ground experimental data collection, as well as analysis of previously collected data, to test factors related to weather report speech induced by the urgency of the environment, i.e., speed/cadence and terminology discrimination/clarity. Existing and previously collected data can include data previously collected from AWIP.3.2, and other data sets available through the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), with examples of PIREPs, submitted for various reported weather conditions. New data collection can include use of GA pilots with low experience (e.g., less than 400 hours of flight time, such as students at a Part 141 or Part 61 school with less than 5 years since their Private Pilot certificate) and high experience (e.g., established pilots with one or more recertifications and 2000 or more hours of flight experience). This task will also quantify the potential benefits of implementing the recommendations, as well as establish minimum weather service recommendations for the performance of an operational implementation.
