Centralized Repository on Workforce Development in the Southeast (Project D6) |
摘要: |
The project intends to create a centralized inventory of available workforce development resources applicable to the Southeastern Transportation Industry. This project will define identified challenges facing the industry at-large and those specific to the Southeastern region. It will also define and outline a clear framework for transportation workforce development practice to organize the resources included in the inventory. The proposed inventory will be accomplished through an exhaustive review, coordination with other industry stakeholders, and discussions with industry providers. This effort builds off the findings and suggestions of the STRIDE Project C4 (Transportation Workforce Development for State DOTs to Address Congestion for the Southeast Region). Transportation workforce development, including strategies to educate, recruit, and retain the current and future transportation workforce, is crucial to maintaining the success of the industry as it experiences rapid technological growth, shifting labor supplies, and demographic change, among others. Although workforce development is a stated priority for many private and public sector stakeholders and the challenges facing the industry are well-understood, the existing state of practice is characterized by a severe lack of coordination among training providers. The intention of this project is to follow the recommendation of the STRIDE Project C4 (Transportation Workforce Development for State DOTs to Address Congestion for the Southeast Region) in establishing an inventory of information on transportation workforce development in the Southeast Region. The project will work from the findings of the STRIDE Project C4, which previously defined the prevailing challenges facing the industry and potential strategies to meet them, to identify and collect resources available within the Southeast Region. This inventory is intended to provide a supportive resource to aide in the development of a coordinated workforce development strategy for the Southeast Region. By creating a single point of available resources, STRIDE can improve coordination among the diverse workforce development providers and users within the region and identify opportunities for development of new education and training materials. Creating such a platform will also facilitate additional networking and communication efforts from STRIDE, as recommended by this study, with other regional stakeholders. |
